Constructivism (fr. Constructivisme from lat. Constructio - construction) is an avant-garde style (method, direction) that developed in the 20-30s of the XX century, the basis of the artistic image of which is not composition, but construction.

The beginning of the twentieth century is considered the birth date of constructivism. Its development is called a natural reaction to sophisticated floral, that is, plant motifs inherent in Art Nouveau, which rather quickly tired the imagination of contemporaries and aroused the desire to search for something new.

Design is one of the shaping techniques based on accurate calculations of the physical properties of materials and functions of an object. Design is one of the stages or components of the design process, mainly in the field of architecture and design. The purpose of the design is to organize the optimal functional connection of the elements of the composition.

In the field of architecture, constructivist tendencies were strengthened by the introduction of new industrial technology and materials - iron, concrete, glass.

Constructivism in the interior is characterized by the aesthetics of expediency, the rationality of strictly utilitarian forms, cleared of the romantic decorativeism of Art Nouveau.

The function and purpose of each item are very clear. No bourgeois excesses.

A distinctive feature of the constructivist style in interior design is thoughtful functional solutions and strict adherence to their requirements, compact volumes with a clearly identified frame, technical clarity of building an architectural form.

The constructive interior excludes any floral motives and romance. This style of interior is preferred by those who like to have perfect geometric order in their home.

The main motto of constructivism in the interior is functionality and simplicity in everything.
The interior space of the apartments is freed from partitions, the division into zones is carried out in an abstract way.

The space of the rooms became more spacious, preference was given to movable partitions, rather than separate small rooms and corridors. The shapes of the furniture were dominated by rectangular planes and clear lines, windows from floor to ceiling, which created the feeling of moving forward, to the new and unknown. Minimal decor and maximum functionality, no ornament and shine of metal, colors: black, white, red, yellow, blue - this is the style of constructivism.

The simplicity of constructivism is taken to the limit, to such a simplification, when things - chairs, beds, wardrobes - become just objects for sleeping, sitting. Compared to previous styles, such as baroque and empire, constructivism stands out for the lack of stucco decoration. Built-in niches and backlights are widely used.

The walls are painted in calm colors, or pasted over with wallpaper with a discreet geometric ornament, or one-color wallpaper. It is preferable to decorate the floor with tiles with geometric patterns and a combination of black and white colors or lay out with parquet; you can decorate the floor with small rugs with the image of geometric shapes of different colors. The lighting is preferably artificial, so the interior can be supplemented with several lamps of geometric shapes.

Windows are not given much attention, it is best to decorate them with blinds or bright curtains with a simple texture. All things and the interior as a whole are distinguished by maximum functionality and minimal decor. Ornament was completely absent in them, color accents were allowed - shine of metal, noble black, pure white and rich simple colors - red, yellow, blue. These colors were considered a reflection of the philosophical and spiritual values of the era.

Constructivism is great for spacious rooms, the arrangement of country houses, loft apartments, studio apartments and duplexes, as well as new and uninhabited premises, when their owners cannot decide on the choice of style. It also looks great in a home theater and in a spacious one-room apartment - the haven of an urban "hermit", where it is good to relax after the "stone jungle" of the metropolis.

The well-thought-out style of the constructivist interior is laconicism and unity of decoration and simple architecture.
